Dec 3, 2018
It’s Monday December 3, 2018. Welcome back, everyone. On today’s show, we talk about pilot medical issues and keep chipping away at the feedback!
“Tango Mike, The Fire Truck Guy” sent in some great audio feedback about controller’s diagnosing pilot’s with medical emergencies. How do controllers train to recognize these events and more importantly, how do the controllers help the pilot’s in need? What happens when a pilot demonstrates diminished mental capacity or shows signs of hypoxia or possible intoxication?
Audio from a distressed/hypoxic pilot and interaction with ATC.
Audio from an incident involving a drunk pilot and ATC recognizing the problem and alerting authorities. Great job, ATC! The controllers were honored at the Archie League Awards banquet in September. To learn more about the Archie League Awards, click here.

Hosted annually by the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA), Communicating For Safety (CFS) is the aviation industry’s leading conference focusing on safety, technology and building relationships. This three-day event is unique in that it's the only conference of its kind to focus specifically on the air traffic needs of all members of the aviation community who are affected by the National Airspace System (NAS).
